Setting up a bank account
What you can open before your Emirates ID, what you can't, and which UAE banks expats actually recommend.
Overview
Your UAE bank account becomes the centre of daily life — salary, rent cheques, DEWA, school fees, everyday spending. Most banks need your residency visa and Emirates ID (or application receipt) to finalise.
Some banks will start the application pre-arrival; activation completes once your Emirates ID is in hand. Plan a short cash buffer for the gap.
